Google Ads clicks but no sales: a practical diagnosis before new creative
Check purchase tracking, search intent, the landing-page offer and checkout before deciding which product image or video to test next.

Establish whether sales are missing or measurement is missing
A report showing clicks and zero purchases can describe two different problems: customers are not buying, or purchases are not reaching the report correctly. Start with your store’s paid orders for the same period, then inspect the purchase conversion action in Google Ads. Check the date range and reporting delay before treating the number as a complete account of customer behaviour.
Google recommends checking conversion status and using Tag Assistant to inspect a test conversion. Have the person responsible for tracking follow a controlled checkout, preferably through your store’s test process, and verify the event values. A debugging test confirms implementation behaviour; it does not by itself prove that an ordinary advertising click would receive attribution.
- Confirm that the purchase event represents a completed order, rather than an add-to-cart action or a normal page view.
- Check that the intended purchase action is used for the campaign’s measurement and optimisation goals.
- Record the transaction identifier, currency and value in your private test notes so duplicate or malformed events can be investigated.
Inspect the intent behind the traffic
Next, inspect what people wanted when they found the ad. In Search campaigns, review available search terms alongside the matched keywords and the advertised product. Google’s search terms report does not expose every low-volume query, so treat it as useful evidence rather than a complete transcript. Separate searches for buying, comparison, repair, instructions and unrelated products.
For example, a shop selling complete table lamps might receive interest from searches for replacement lampshades. A more dramatic lamp photograph does not resolve that mismatch. Review relevant exclusions, targeting and ad wording in Google Ads with the account manager. Keep valuable research-stage searches separate from obvious mismatches; a term without a purchase in a small sample is not automatically worthless.
Follow the exact offer through the store
Open the final landing URL on a phone and follow the purchase path without relying on your familiarity with the site. In an illustrative lamp campaign, an ad promising the brass version should not land on a generic collection with a black version selected. Confirm the same product, visible price and genuine offer, then continue through delivery options and payment.
Write down the first concrete obstacle instead of labelling the entire website poor. A missing size, an unavailable delivery region and a payment error need different fixes. For Shopping traffic, Merchant Center also expects product and availability information to remain consistent through the purchase journey.
- Can a new visitor identify the advertised variant and understand what is included?
- Are delivery costs, restrictions, returns and the next purchase step understandable?
- Do variant selection, the cart and the chosen payment method work on the actual device?
Test creative against a specific remaining uncertainty
Once measurement and the purchase path are credible, choose one creative question. If visitors cannot judge the lamp’s scale, compare the existing image with an accurate contextual image showing its dimensions through a believable setting. If the product is already clear, a new background may be less useful than improving the offer or explaining delivery. Choose a review period and spending limit before launching a test.
AI Campaign Studio can prepare reference-led images, short videos and a product set for different layouts. Check product accuracy and the credit quote before creating. Its social and website presets are not dedicated Google ad exports; crop or assemble the approved underlying visuals to the actual Google format in your advertising tools. The app does not repair Google tags, change bids or publish campaigns. Judge the test using verified purchases and commercial costs, with clicks as supporting evidence; new visuals do not guarantee sales.
